Chris Plemmons Invited to the White House!!!!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Last Updated on Wednesday, 26 May 2010 18:05 Written by Karen Molinari Wednesday, 28 April 2010 20:28

Our very own, Chef Chris Plemmons has been invited to join an elite group of 100 Chefs from all over the United States to participate in Michelle Obama’s Chefs Move to Schools, the effort to solve the childhood obesity epidemic.

Here’s Chris’s invitation:

“The ACF (American Culinary Federation) has been asked to participate in an exciting new initiative led by White House Chef, Sam Kass, called Chefs Move to Schools.  As part of the White House’s Let’s Move campaign to solve the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation, Michelle Obama is calling on chefs to get involved.   The Chefs Move to Schools program, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will pair chefs with interested schools in their communities to adopt the school and work with teachers, parents and school nutrition professionals to help educate kids about food and nutrition.  The goal of the program is to promote chefs as the catalyst for creating a new nation of child food advocates and start turning the tide on eating behaviors.

The Chefs Move to Schools program is starting with a pilot launch of the program involving 100 chefs from all over the United States.  The pilot group would work closely with the ACF, the National Restaurant Association, and Share Our Strength over the summer and begin working in the schools this fall.  The invitation to participate in the launch of this event is extremely limited.  The ACF has chosen to invite you because of your previously demonstrated volunteerism, ACF participation and interest in positively impacting childhood nutrition.

The launch event is set for Friday, June 4, 2010 at the White House.  The launch event will be a large-scale gathering on the South Lawn of the White House.  Chefs who attend will have the fun of going on the White House grounds, visit the White House garden, hear the First Lady (and other celebrity presenters) speak in person, and have the experience of being part of the launch of an exciting new initiative.”

Let's all congratulate Chris for this great honor!!!
